Every summer, the boat inspections at the Horseshoe Lake landing serve as our first and most important line of defense against invasive species. These inspections aren’t about enforcement—they’re about protecting the lake we all care about.

Through simple, hands-on education, volunteers help boaters learn how to inspect their watercraft and remove aquatic plants and debris before entering and leaving the lake—stopping invasive species from spreading to new waters.

We need your help. With more volunteers, we can reach more boaters and make an even bigger impact this season.

If you want to help protect our lake and spend time outdoors with a purpose, becoming a Clean Boats, Clean Waters (CBCW) inspector is a meaningful and rewarding way to do it.

You can get started by attending one of two upcoming trainings hosted by the Polk County Land and Water Resources Department:

  • Monday, April 27 | 5:00–6:30 PM
    Online training
  • Thursday, April 30 | 1:00–3:00 PM
In-person at the Polk County Government Center in Balsam Lake

Both sessions cover the same material, so you only need to attend one.

Take the next step today:  Please complete this form to sign up for a training.   After signing up, you’ll receive a confirmation email with all the details. Then reach out to Joe Waldo at hlake.treasurer@gmail.com and let him know that you are interested in helping with this important project and we will team you up with one of our experienced inspectors. Whether you can help a couple hours a month or a couple hours a week – all assistance is appreciated!

Help protect Horseshoe Lake—your time can make a real difference.
